Nido

Our goal with the infants is to empower the child to learn in their own way, with the required nourishment to develop independence.

8 weeks to 18 months

Extended day: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Nido means “Nest”, in Italian and is representative of the safe and comfortable environment the infant child will experience in it. This is the most fundamental period in a child’s development. The environment fosters the baby with the task of self-formation i.e creation of Spiritual Embryo(the child) learns subconsciously with “The Absorbent Mind”.

“The Period of Infancy is undoubtedly the richest. It should be utilized by education in every possible and conceivable way. The waste of this period of life can never be compensated. Instead of ignoring the early years, it is our duty to cultivate them with utmost care”. -The Absorbent Mind, p.2.

The baby had already started learning senses while in Utero, from touch to taste, as the timeline in the table below shows. The Nido environment should provide continuity to complete the formation outside the womb.

Infant at this stage undergoes intensive construction of mind. He needs to move around and explore the environment with his senses. Setting up the right environment helps him be involved in the creation of himself.

Sense of Tactile

At 5.5 weeks, the embryo is sensitive around the mouth and nose, by 12 weeks, the entire body able to feel(with exception of top and bottom of head)

Sense of Vestibular

By 10 weeks, the baby moves parts in response to internal stimulation.

Sense of Taste

Around 21 weeks, Taste sensation is experienced in utero via the amniotic fluid.

Sense of Hearing

By 23 weeks, the baby can hear sounds outside their mom’s body

Sense of Smelling

By 28 weeks, the fetus can smell, the food mother eaten.

Sense of Vision

From 32 weeks, electrical impulses can pass along the baby’s optic nerve allowing some vision in utero eg: light vs dark.
